Living in Austin, I never thought I'd be stuck in the house for days on end because of snow and ice. I mean, this is the same place where you can usually wear a t-shirt in February and feel fine. In fact, my birthday is right around the corner and I was genuinely hoping it'd be warm enough to take a dip in the outdoor hotel pool during my upcoming staycation. And it usually is!
But alas, it's 10 degrees outside and I'm not going anywhere, and I know many of you are in the same boat. Some of you are using this time to dive into your Craftee boxes and I've loved seeing your pictures on Instagram and Facebook, but if you're looking for even more ideas, I've pulled together a handful of DIY projects you can make with household items or common craft supplies.
These are the kinds of craft projects to make when you can't go to the store, may not have power and are looking for some easy fun!
1. A Boho Wreath
If you have an embroidery hoop, macramé hoop or flexible wire hanger, you can create a boho wreath like the one from Kaleidoscope Living. If you don't have those items on hand, I also love the idea of making a rectangle or square version out of an old frame! Using their tutorial as a guide, you could also make some easy supply swaps, like wrapping your wreath with yarn instead of fabric, and omitting the extra decorations.
2. Mosaic Art With Beans
Don't let the beans weird you out - one of my favorite crafts I've ever done was actually bean art! It may sound strange, but it's incredibly satisfying and easy. Grab whatever dry beans or lentils you have in the pantry, some glue and cardboard, and let the beans guide you :)
3. Paper Chain Wall Hanging
This paper chain wall hanging reminds me a lot of wrapped macramé, where you can create a scene across rows. This is a great craft to pass the time, and requires only basic supplies. You could even improvise and paint your paper if you don't have colored paper on hand.
4. Hand-Painted Glass Vases
These hand-painted or hand-drawn vases are an incredibly easy and beautiful project that requires just a couple supplies! If you don't have a paint pen or marker as suggested, a paintbrush and white paint will do as well.
5. Container Craft Using Sharpies
It doesn't get simpler than transforming containers with just a sharpie and stickers! This sharpie craft transforms any flower pot or container into artwork. You could even give this method a try on paper or canvas, and any shape of stickers will work.
6. Easy Pom Pom Garland
Take any space up a notch with a super fun pom pom garland! You can make this piece in any color scheme (I'd go for something bright and fun!), plus you can make the pom poms large or small. It's the perfect relaxing craft!
7. Marbled Nail Polish Art
If you've got nail polish, there are so many ways to create with this easy marbling technique! If you don't have a canvas on hand, try this with white cardboard, cardstock or even a ceramic vase or mug.
I hope you'll give some of these a try while stuck at home, or just when inspiration strikes! If you're looking for an easy way to craft on a regular basis, our DIY subscription box is the perfect option. Subscribe now and get the February box, shipping within the week.
